SUKKUR, Oct 28: A double bench of the Sindh High Court, Sukkur, on Tuesday allowed a woman, Shamshad Solangi, to get divorce from her husband, Munir Ahmad, and remarry according to Shariat.

Soon after the bench, comprising Justice Zahid Qurban Alvi and Justice Maqbool Baqar, announced the verdict, a man, Janib Mahar, to whom the woman reportedly wanted to marry was shot dead by some persons.

The police claimed that the brothers of the woman had killed Janib Mahar.

Ms Solangi, presently residing in Darul Amaan, had filed a petition before the court, stating therein that three months back she went the Abad police station where she told the police that her husband was a criminal and used to torture her. She said she asked the police to provide her with protection.

She said the Abad police produced her before the court of the third additional sessions judge of Sukkur who ordered to keep her in Darul Amaan and provide protection to her.

The murder of Janib Mahar was also brought into the notice of the judges who ordered the police to take Ms Solangi to Darul Amaan and ensure safety of her life by deputing police force there.

The court also ordered the in charge of the Darul Amaan to provide protection to all the women.—Correspondent
