KARACHI: Body set up to restructure ACE

KARACHI, Oct 28: Sindh Chief Secretary Dr Mutawakkal Kazi has set up a three-member committee to give recommendations for restructuring the provincial anti-corruption establishment.

The committee will be headed by Additional Chief Secretary (Development) Ghulam Sarwar Khehro. Secretary Services Hashim Leghari and ACE Chairman Mukhtar Ahmed will be the other two members of the committee, which will submit its report containing recommendations for restructuring of anti-corruption establishment within three weeks.

The chief secretary said that the implementation of principles, rules and regulations, would going to produce positive results for the improvement of all departments. He was of the view that the posting of officials in the anti-corruption establishment had been made from a particular department that had left negative effects on the performance and reputation of anti- corruption establishment.

“The administrative setup of the anti-corruption establishment needs to be reorganized under the rules,” he said.

Emphasizing on the need to link the performance of departments with law, rules and regulations, he pointed out that there was need to restructure the anti-corruption department in order to cleanse the departments of corrupt practices.

He noted that posting of officials from a particular department in the ACE cast negative effects. Therefore, the administrative structure of this organization should be framed purely on the basis of merit.

The chief secretary called for determining the fact as to what should be the period for disposing of cases of corruption. He said it had been noticed that even after year, the cases were passed through fresh inquiries, which was not an unliked tradition.—APP/PPI
