Residents block expressway

ISLAMABAD: Ghauri Town residents on Tuesday blocked Islamabad Expressway protesting the CDA, which has declared the housing society illegal.

CDA has dug out roads, sealed the society office and stopped development.

CDA spokesperson Ramzan Sajid said action was taken because the society was operating without an NOC.

Shahid Nazir, an allottee of Ghauri Town, told Dawn that the society was functional for almost 10 years but CDA never took action.

“People have invested millions of rupees but now, suddenly, CDA has woken up and started sending notices and advised SNGPL and Iesco not to give connections in the area,” he said. However a senior CDA officer said the CDA cannot be blamed for the situation. “According to bylaws every society has to get NOC from CDA to establish a housing society,” he said.
