PESHAWAR, Oct 27: Leader of the People’s Party Parliamentarians in the NWFP assembly, Abdul Akbar Khan, on Monday dismissed the issuance of a show-cause notice, saying it had been served because of some misunderstanding over certain issues raised by the party’s local leadership.
Talking to this correspondent on telephone here, he said the party could serve show-cause notice on anybody whose political performance was unsatisfactory or against its political line.
“I have never used the party’s name for personal gains. I don’t want to discuss inner party issues in the public. The party’s leadership knows who has made the party inert,” Mr Khan observed.
Nothing could move him, he said, from the party’s political stand on various national issues, adding that he remained loyal to the party and not to anyone’s personal whims.
Mr Khan confidently said: “I am supposed to give a clear and satisfactory reply to the show-cause notice served on me by the PPP’s secretary-general. I have satisfied the PPP leadership in the past on similar issues.”
He said he was convinced that the PPP leadership was aware about the occasional campaigns and conspiracies aimed at damaging the party from within. “I hope PPP Chairperson Benazir Bhutto will not spare anyone involved in anti-PPP activities,” Mr Khan added.
Mr Khan said he was satisfied that he had done nothing against the party’s interest inside or outside the NWFP assembly. PPP workers and district-level organisations knew who had caused the loss to the party in the province.
He expressed the hope that the issue would be resolved at the party forums, instead of fighting it out in newspapers columns.
