GUJRAT, Oct 25: Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has said that his government would build small dams in Barani (rain-fed) areas like Tanda.

Speaking to a big public gathering in Tanda after inaugurating a Sui Gas supply project for Tanda and Karrianwala here on Saturday, the chief minister said that Sui Gas would also be provided to the nearby villages of Fatehpur, Alam Garrh, Chak Sada, Chopala and Kassoki.

The CM also announced a Rs55 million grant for a Sui Gas supply project in Fatehpur village. He said he had fulfilled all the promises and commitments that his cousin, MNA Chaudhry Wajahat Hussain, made with residents of Tanda and Karrianwala during his election campaign. For provision of Sui Gas to Tanda, Rs150 million had been released, he said.

The chief minister said that the government had allocated Rs50 million for supplying electricity to the villages of NA-104, the constituency of Chaudhry Wajahat Hussain. This project would be completed within a few months.

He said that the Ranewal Chowk-Karrianwala Road and Kotla Sohian Road would soon be widened while a school in Doga village had already been upgraded. The chief minister said that development of Surakhpur village would also be undertaken.

He criticized the Bhutto family whose founder Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, he said, served as a civilian martial law administrator, adding that his daughter Benazir Bhutto did not have any right to say even a word about restoration of democracy.

He said that Mr Bhutto had lost half the country for personal gains while former federal minister Chaudhry Zahoor Elahi had undergone detention of seven years only for restoration of democracy in the country. The chief minister said their rival political family (Bhuttos) had tried its best to take them to task, but God gave them more respect than ever before.

He said that spurs would be constructed along the Chenab River from Goraia village to Shampur to save the land of area from erosion.

MNA Chaudhry Wajahat Hussain in his speech thanked the chief minister for fulfilling the promises that he had made with people of his constituency (NA-104). Provincial Minister for Education Mian Imran Masood, MNA Rahman Naseer, MPA Abdullah Yousaf, Advisor to CM Chaudhry Naeem Raza, district Nazim Chaudhry Shafaat Hussain and district Naib Nazim Mian Arshad Hayat were also present on the occasion.
