PO shot dead in ‘encounter’

JHANG, Oct 24: A proclaimed offender was killed while his two accomplices beat their retreat after a two-hour long encounter with the Massan police near Chund Pull on Thursday night.

Massan SHO Sheikh Abid Ghani received an information on Wednesday that PO Nazar Muhammad alias Nazra Bharwana of Thatta Shera was present in his hideout. A police party raided there, but the PO managed to escape.

The Massan SHO again got a tip-off that the PO along with his two accomplices was present at the house of Riaz Noon in Sailwala village on the eastern bank of river Chenab.

The SHO with another police party rushed to the place, but the criminals took refuge in nearby sugar cane fields after getting wind of police presence. The raiding party besieged the fields, but they were fired upon by the criminals. The police also returned the fire which continued for some two hours resulting in the killing of Nazar Muhammad. While his two accomplices managed to escape by taking advantage of the darkness.

The deceased PO was wanted by Massan and Qadirpur police in 14 cases of heinous nature. He had also allegedly killed constable Nasir Ali in an encounter with the Massan police last year.

SHO BOOKED: The Kotwali police on Friday registered a case against former SHO Massan Rustam Ali, a headconstable and two constables for abducting and torturing a man.

Complainant Muhammad Aslam, who had already lodged a complain against the SHO in a local court, was coming out of the courtroom when the SHO abducted him. He took the complainant to the police station and kept him in illegal custody at his residential quarters.

The SHO, headconstable Khalid, constables Shaukat and Aurangzeb subjected the complaint to severe torture to pressurise him to withdraw the plaint. Later, they released him after obtaining his signature on a plain paper.

RAIDED: A police party of Islamabad on Thursday raided the house of former MNA Nawab Amanullah Khan at Jhang in connection with the murder case of Millat-i-Islamia chief Maulana Azam Tariq. Led by SI Bashir Ahmad Noon, the raiding team could not arrest the MNA as he was not present in his house.
