DERA GHAZI KHAN, Oct 24: A chargesheet has been served on an excise and taxation officer and two clerks of the local motor registration branch by the inquiry officer in a case of registration of non-custom paid vehicles.

According to details, the case of registration of non-custom paid vehicles came to surface a month ago when Zafar Iqbal lodged an application that his car (DGK-6111) was impounded by the Custom authorities in Multan on the charge of not paying duty. He said the motor registration branch had verified the registration of the car when he purchased it from Fayyaz Lond autos.

The registration was in the name of one Ghulam Ali Jhangail, who is allegedly involved in the illegal business.

The excise and taxation director suspended two clerks of the motor registration branch. However, excise and taxation officer Amanullah Butt is still working.

Layyah excise and taxation officer Sharif Khera is conducting an inquiry against his counterpart in Dera Ghazi Khan.

Sources alleged that the gang, led by Ghulam Ali Jhangail, was active in connivance with the influentials of the area. “The motor registration branch takes 200,000 for the registration of non-custom paid vehicles,” alleged the sources.
