Kaghan glacier break-off: One miner dead, nine others injured

PESHAWAR: One miner died after a glacier break-off in Kaghan Valley of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Mansehra district buried at least ten miners on Sunday, District Police Officer (DPO) Mansehra Najeebur Rehman said.

Nine other labourers, who were working inside a ruby mine, have been rescued from beneath the glacial debris and admitted to District Headquarters Hospital Mansehra for treatment of minor injuries, he said.

Station House Officer Kaghan Valley police station Gulnawaz Khan said the miners had been working underneath the glacier at the time of the break-off.

Heavy snowfall in Pakistan's northern areas has caused a number of avalanches in the area, leaving around 300 vehicles stranded in the area.
