HYDERABAD: Wheat output be increased, says dist Nazim

HYDERABAD, Oct 24: The district Nazim, Dr Makhdoom Rafiquzzaman, has said that sufficient quantity of water is available in the country but the need of the hour is its just distribution.

He said that mutual trust and harmony between the provinces was in the best interest of Pakistan while delivering his presidential speech at a seminar on “Wheat Production and Technology” held at Tando Jam on Thursday which was jointly organized by the Technology Transfer Institute, Tando Jam, and Engro Chemicals Pakistan.

Stressing on the need for increasing the production of wheat, he said that due importance to research institutions had to be given for the purpose. Research was of no use if its benefits were not passed on to the farming community, he added.

Furthermore, he proposed joint efforts to transfer the latest agricultural technology to growers.

Speaking on the occasion, the regional manager, Engro Chemicals Pakistan, Wajid Hussain Junejo, said that increase in good quality wheat production was dependent on good quality fertilizers and added that developed countries had increased their production through rational use of fertilizers.

Mr Junejo pointed out that after the introduction of the WTO rules, only quality products would find markets and the only option in this regard was research.

Later, the district Nazim also attended the meeting of the union council of Tando Jam. He assured the council members that an additional sum of Rs30 million would be provided for development schemes, including water supply and sewerage.

He urged the Nazims of the union councils of Hyderabad taluka to forward their development schemes and proposals to him as soon as possible.

He also visited the Tando Jam Health Centre and said that the centre would be upgraded and a lady doctor appointed there.
