New Rs5 coin from tomorrow

KARACHI: The State Bank of Pakistan will issue Rs5 coin of new size and changed metal composition tomorrow.

The new coins will be issued through the exchange counters of all the field offices of SBP Banking Services Corporation from Oct 15 (Thursday).

The coin weighs 3 grams with 79 per cent copper, 20pc zinc and 1pc nickel. Its diameter is 18.5 millimetre.

The front side of the coin depicts a waxing crescent and a five-pointed star facing north-west in rising position. Along with periphery on the top of the crescent and star is inscribed in wording “Islami Jamhooria Pakistan” in Urdu script, while below are the year of issuance and two springs of wheat with arms curved upward. A circle of small beads is all along the edge of coin.

The back side of the coin is depicted with a floral wreath all along within the periphery of the coin split with the cones of a five-pointed star in the centre. The face value of the coin in numeral wording (5) is in bold letter and rupee in Urdu script in the centre of the star. The coin bears its beads along the periphery.

The existing Rs5 coin will remain in circulation along with the new one.
