FAISALABAD, Oct 22: The UK’s House of Lords member, Nazir Ahmed, has termed the move to recognize Israel as immature and untimely because it would harm the interests of Ummat and the cause of freedom fighters of occupied Kashmir and Palestine.
He was speaking at a meeting of the Faisalabad District Bar Association here on Tuesday night.
Lord Nazir said that thousands of Palestinians had been murdered by Israel. Indian forces have gunned down over 80,000 Kashmiris for raising voice for right of self-determination which was promised by the United Nations in 1948 and 1949, he added.
He said that it would be a great setback for the Muslim countries as well as the freedom fighters if the Pakistan government or any group from this soil launched movement for recognition of Israel.
He pointed out that after the 9/11 incident, Muslims all over the world were being dubbed as terrorists.
The detention of hundreds of prisoners at the Guantanamu Bay by the US forces was not only a clear violation of the international norms but also a stigma on the face of human rights organizations.
Lord Nazir criticized the US and its allied forces for using cluster bombs and even uranium weapons in Afghanistan and Iraq despite the fact that the same had been banned by the UN. “Regretfully, no one raised any voice against this violation by the US.
“The mujahideen of Kashmir, Palestine and Chechnya are freedom fighters and need no certificate from any state. It is clear now that India, Israel and Russia are terrorist states as their forces are killing Muslims for raising voice against illegal occupations of their states,” Lord Nazir said.
He said that over 14,000 women were being tortured to death annually only in Russia but the international organizations were playing the role of silent spectators. On the other hand, a media war was launched against Muslims if they were found involved even in a minor case of torture on women.
He appreciated the Pakistan government’s move to construct more dams.
He paid tribute to the lawyers community for raising voice against the unconstitutional steps of the government and the movement launched for protection of rights of the people.
Earlier, DBA President Salahuddin highlighted in his welcome speech the efforts of Lord Nazir Ahmed for the cause of the Muslims of occupied Kashmir and other parts of the world.
TRADERS’ STRIKE: Hundreds of Katchery Bazar traders observed on Wednesday token strike against the tehsil municipal administration (city).
The traders also staged a demonstration in Katchery Bazaar and were chanted slogans against City Nazim. They demanded that the Punjab chief minister should direct the local council not to declare commercial areas as parking lots.
The strike followed the visit of the contractor along with armed guards to Katchery Bazaar for the collection of parking fee. The traders put up resistance and foiled the attempt of the contractor.
DPO Muhammad Amin along with a heavy police contingent reached to the spot and assured the traders that the matter would be resolved according to their wishes. On this assurance, the traders dispersed peacefully.
