DERA GHAZI KHAN, Oct 21: The councillors of urban union councils held on Tuesday a protest demonstration against poor sanitation condition in the city in front of the tehsil Nazim’s office and chanted slogans against him.
Around 30 councillors held the demonstration when the members of tehsil council were coming out of Jinnah Hall after attending a council session.
The protesters, led by Advocate Mazhar Aftab, were carrying placards inscribed with slogans against the TMA and Nazim Asim Zubair Khosa. Mr Khosa and councillors also exchanged hot words. Naib Nazim Hafiz Abdul Khalid Rauf intervened and tried to settle the matter. But the councillors refused to hold talks with the Nazim on his harsh and insulting behaviour with them. They demanded that the Nazim should apologise with them before holding talks.
Mr Khosa said he was not bound to act upon their suggestion and he would use force if the councillors protested again.
The protesters demanded that sanitation staff should be deployed to clean the city. They claimed that the workers have been deployed at the residences of bureaucrats and parliamentarians while heaps of garbage and choked gutters could be seen in the city.
Prominent among the protesters were Sheikh Bilal, Advocate Mazhar Aftab, Akbar Malkani, Qamaruddin, Sheikh Amjad, Kifayat Husain and Sheikh Tahir.
Naib Nazim Rauf later told Dawn that 300 sanitary workers have been employed by the TMA and he would bound them to perform their duties.
Earlier, the tehsil council adopted 13 resolutions in its session which was presided over by Hafiz Khalid Rauf. The council extended time for the completion of 13 development schemes work on which was in progress.
They included construction of boundary wall and washrooms of the residence-cum-office of an intelligence agency.
The council adopted a resolution against arbitrary increase in the fee by the Divisional Public School and College board of governors and demanded its withdrawal. The council also demanded restoration of kinship facility.
