Man arrested on human trafficking charge

GUJRAT, Oct 21: An alleged human trafficker was arrested by the FIA passport cell, Islamabad, from Mandi Bahauddin, Dawn learnt here on Tuesday.

A source said an FIA team led by an inspector arrested Khalid Ranjha. The action was taken after complaints by the area people that the agent took money from them to send them abroad but he neither fulfilled his promise nor returned their money, he said.

He claimed that the FIA team was also carrying a list of around 35 agents belonging to Mandi Bahauddin and it had conducted raids at their houses and but could not arrest any of them. Almost all the agents on the FIA list had gone underground, he added.

COUPLE ROBBED: Three car riders robbed a couple on Chani Road near Chani Nikwani village on Tuesday.

Mian Amanat was on his way home by his motorcycle along with his wife when a car hit them from behind as a result of which they fell on the road. They came out of their car and snatched at gunpoint Rs4,000 in cash, a cell phone and 10 tolas of gold jewellery from the couple.

MINERAL WATER: Contaminated and sand mixed mineral water is being sold in the city markets by a multinational company.

Some people purchased mineral water bottles from a bakery on Ramtlai Road and complained to the owner that the bottled water was contaminated and contained sand particles.

The bakery owner checked the crate, having 12 bottles, and found that they contained dirty water.

Later, he brought the matter to the notice of a representative of the company, Abid Mahmood, who confirmed that seals of the bottles were genuine and they were not tampered with.
