FAISALABAD, Oct 21: Punjab Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi has announced that a special grant of Rs2.5 million each will be provided to those union councils, which will reorganize and strengthen the PML-Q.
Speaking at a reception hosted by District Nazim Zahid Nazir at the Chaudhry House, Gatwala, on Tuesday, the chief minister averred that the key to the success of the devolution of power plan lay in the union council members’ joining the ruling party and conceiving welfare policies under its guidance.
It was about time that the union council Nazims, members of the national and provincial assemblies and the PML-Q office-bearers made concerted efforts to provide facilities to the general public. “Conflicts and differences over petty issues related to development projects are to be shunned at all costs,” he advised.
He said the industrial and agricultural policies, including packages for the landless farmers, abolition of tax for landholdings up to 12.5 acres and distribution of state land among the tillers, spoke volumes for the ruling group’s efforts for introducing welfare-oriented policies.
He said Rs1 million would be provided to the Bar associations in each district and Rs300,000 to each tehsil Bar for uplift of libraries and other facilities.
Instructions had been issued for identifying the areas for developing housing societies for lawyers in every district, said the chief minister, who iterated that such policies would enhance the image of the PML-Q.
Earlier, he spoke at the inauguration of the new block of the Government Girls College, Karkhana Bazaar. He announced Rs200 for each girl student in the rural areas, who will get enrolled up to primary.
The government, he said, had decided to enroll all the children for the primary education. “After three years, the parents, who will fail to send their children to schools, will be penalized through a legislation,” he warned.
Mr Pervaiz Elahi also said a comprehensive data on missing facilities at the educational institutes in the province had been collected, and these would be provided under a phased programme for which a special task force had been constituted.
