Five killed, 14 injured in accident

KHAIRPUR, Oct 21: Five persons were killed and 14 were injured when a Karachi-bound passenger coach (P-6240) and a trailer collided head-on on the National Highway in Ranipur here on Monday night.

Four of the killed were identified as Ms Tauba, Abdul Razzaq, Rahmatullah and Mureed Hussain.

The injured, including Allahyar, Khurram, Khalil Ahmad, Wakeel Ahmad, Mohammad Raza, Khalil Ahmad Qureshi, Abdul Malik, Sattar and Tariq Mehmood, four of whom were said to be in critical condition were taken to a Ranipur hospital. Some of the injured were sent to Karachi.

The Ranipur police have impounded the trailer.

DEMO: Growers continued their protest against excesses of cotton ginners by holding a demonstration in Hingorja here on Tuesday.

They said ginners were charging Rs200 and deducing cotton on each 40 kilogramme.

They demanded that the government should take a notice of the matter.

ATTACK: Some armed men opened fire on a car of Sindh Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam leader Maulana Mir Mohammad Mirak near Hingorja here on Tuesday night.

The driver of the car was on his way to the Mirak village after dropping Maulana Mirak in Haliji. The accused snatched a rifle from police constable Bashir Jogi, who is bodyguard of the Maulana.
