TOBA TEK SINGH, Oct 19: The Punjab government has directed the tehsil municipal administration to stop collecting road service charges with immediate effect.

A circular, carrying this direction, was issued on Saturday after the transport owners complained that the TMA officials had been illegally collecting the tax from them.

Meanwhile, the municipal authority’s parking fee contractor has complained that the TMA officials have not been allowing him to collect fee from the transporters at its octroi posts.

He said he had obtained the contract through an open auction against his tender of Rs3.9 million, and alleged that several Naib Nazims and other officials offered him illegal gratification for not accepting the contract. However, the contractor said, he did not accept bribe.
