LAHORE, Oct 19: The All-Pakistan PWD Workers Union has demanded announcement of service rules for district government employees and new schedule of wages for workcharged employees after allowing a 15 per cent raise pending regularization of their services.

The demands were voiced at the annual general meeting of the union held here with Haji Aslam Firdausi in the chair. The union general council also demanded rectification of the mistakes committed during restructuring for implementation of the devolution plan.

The council stressed the need for the restoration of rights of workcharged employees regularized after 1972 and enforcement of the 1972 Pay Revision Rules and Percentage Increase Formula on regular employees of the Punjab Communication and Works Department as had been done in case of the Irrigation and Agriculture Department employees.

It also demanded promotion of engineering diploma holder workers of highways and buildings departments as sub-engineers against 10 per cent agreed quota, establishment of a housing society for employees besides provision of transport facilities to them.

The council called for the restoration of higher pay scales for categories whose pay had been reduced besides an upward revision of the pay and allowances of gardeners, mates, cleaners, tubewell drivers, mechanics, plumbers, electricians and fitters besides grant of Scale-11 to highway inspectors.

Union secretary-general Raja Mohammed Amin Rathore, senior vice-presidents Abdul Hamid Butt and Tahir Butt, PWC secretary-general Khurshid Ahmad and zonal chairmen spoke at the meeting.
