RAWALPINDI, Oct 18: Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali on Saturday called upon doctors to prepare themselves for bridging the widening technological gap in medical sciences between the developed and the developing countries.

The prime minister, while speaking at the 21st convocation of the Army Medical College, said: “The people need to be made science conscious.”

The ceremony was also attended by Defence Minister Rao Sikandar Iqbal, the rector of the National University of Sciences and Technology Lt Gen (Retd) Shujaat Hussain, parents of the graduating doctors and others.

Prime Minister Jamali said that rapid and radical changes were occurring in medicine and extra efforts were needed to keep up with their pace.

The prime minister said that the government was taking measures, including mega projects to facilitate the emergence of a new era of socio-economic growth.

The revival of the economy, he said, coupled with the production of a large crop of technical experts, would generate the momentum, “reducing the disparity between the advanced nations and us.”

Prime Minister Jamali said that the country’s young men and women would have to play a crucial role to make “this immense stride” into a new era of advancement, adding that their importance could not be over-emphasized.

He advised them not to allow individual gains to make them unmindful of their obligations to their nation.

He advised them to work hard in life, as there was no shortcut to success, remain committed to their profession and contribute to the country’s technological advancement.—APP
