TOBA TEK SINGH, Oct 18: Residents living in Pacca Anna railway station precinct on Saturday blamed the local railway authorities for an accident at an unmanned level crossing near Chak 93-JB.
A Chiltan Express train rammed a wagon at the level crossing on Friday, leaving a boy dead and several others injured.
The locals told this correspondent that they had requested the railway officials time and again to install gates at the level crossing, but to no avail. As some non-stop trains had started crossing this junction, there was an urgent need to install gates here, they said.
Meanwhile, railways divisional superintendent (Lahore) Abdul Wahab inquired after the injured passengers.
He held the wagon driver responsible for the accident, but also pointed out that the dilapidated road near the railway station could contribute to such mishaps.
He urged the highway authorities to repair all the roads near the level crossings in the district.
Meanwhile, eight passengers suffered grievous injuries when a coaster collided with a pick-up van near Harisabad on the Pirmahal-Sindhlianwali Road, on Saturday morning.
