Army operation to continue: governor

NOWSHERA, Oct 18: NWFP Governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah has said that the operation would continue in tribal areas including South Waziristan Agency to flush out foreign suspects from the area.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of Dual Carriage Way here on Saturday the governor said that the tribesmen had vowed that they would not provide shelter to any foreign suspect in the region.

He said that it was the collective responsibility of the tribesmen to cooperate with the law enforcement agencies, operating in  the region and inform the local authorities about the presence of foreigners in their respective tribal agency.

He said that the government would not compromise on national security and would continue operation against foreign elements and local sympathisers.

Governor Iftikhar dispelled the impression that the government was taking dictation from abroad, saying that Pakistan was fulfilling its international obligations to eliminate terrorism from the region.

Regarding the communication network, the governor said, it was need of the hour to improve roads and highways to boost land route trade ties with Central Asian States, Iran and China He said that the National Highway Authority was accomplishing its responsibilities.

He said that the construction of Jehangira under-pass would facilitate the people and bring down the ratio of road accidents.

He said that the government was spending $10 million on the construction of roads in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas and work on the projects would be started from next year. He said that huge amount had been allocated in the annual budget for social sector to improve life standard of the tribesmen.

Chairman NHA Maj Gen Farukh, parliamentarians and senior officials also attended the ceremony.
