PESHAWAR, Oct 18: The Schools and Literacy department on Saturday suspended services of four employees of a school, including a senior teacher, allegedly involved in sexual abuse of students at the Government City Higher Secondary School for Boys No 3.
A notification was issued in this regard by the Executive District Officer (education) Ayaz Khan according to which the four employees were placed under suspension for a period of three months.
The notification stated that the initial action was taken after receiving the preliminary inquiry report of a sub-committee of the provincial assembly.
The department had also requested its director to take action against another teacher, Mubarak Khan.
The employees who have been suspended are: a teacher Abdul Qayyum, a watchman Baseer Khan and two junior clerks, Shahnawaz and Humayun.
The provincial government is thinking of registering an FIR against the employees concerned, including some teachers.
The sexual abuse of students in the said school has allegedly been going on for over two decades.
It is learnt that various teachers’ associations have expedited their efforts to pressurize the government so that an FIR could not be registered against those accused of sexual abuse of students.
A member of one of the associations told Dawn that a Jirga would be constituted which would try to meet the chief minister to convince him that only departmental action should be taken against the responsible.
