KARACHI, Oct 18: Commander, Five Corps, and president of the Executive Board of Defence Housing Authority, Lt Gen Tariq Waseem Ghazi, on Saturday lauded the efforts of DHA for providing quality education at its educational institutes and expressed the hope that the authority would continue holding interactive workshops and seminars on the issues related to education.

“I’m sure that the recommendations of the seminar on education, formulated as a result of in-depth research, carried out by the Syndicates on the assigned themes, would substantially help in improving quality of education in the schools and colleges of the DHA,” he maintained, while speaking at the concluding session of a two-day seminar on education.

The seminar was organized by the DHA at the Defence Authority Degree College for Women, where policy makers, educationists, academicians and scholars, including former federal information minister Javed Jabbar, Sindh Information Secretary Mrs Mehtab Akbar Rashidi, former Karachi University Vice-Chancellors, Prof Dr Abdul Wahab, Prof Dr Manzoor Ahmed and Prof Hasnain Kazmi, also spoke.

Gen Ghazi particularly appreciated the nature and quality of the recommendations made by the panel leaders, who, instead of stressing on mere concepts and theories, discussed the practical aspects and pragmatic measures for improving educational methodologies and standards.

He appreciated the authority for conducting such events and expressed the hope that such efforts would be continued in future as well, in order to assess the validity of education in DHA’s institutions and to further improve these.

Earlier, DHA Administrator Brig Maqsood Hussain eulogised various delegates for their original research work, carried out on various themes, and appreciated the invaluable insight provided by eminent educationists while discussing various facets of education.

“Our panelists greatly helped syndicates in reaching at definite conclusions,” he said and assured that recommendations made by the syndicates would help formulating progressive education policies for the DHA educational institutions.

He maintained that the DHA would ensure provision of high quality education to its residents.

He said the DHA was working on developing its constituent colleges to grow as centres of excellence in various disciplines of studies.

Former KU vice-chancellor and chairman, Executive Board, Usman Institute of Technology, Dr Mazoor Ahmed, highlighting the role of education in the rise and fall of nations, presented philosophical views, giving a new dimension to the proceedings of the seminar.

Brig Muzafarrul Hassan, DHA director education, felicitated the study syndicates, guest speakers, faculty members, students, and principals of the DHA educational institutions, for their active participation in the event.

Two sessions, held on the second day of the seminar, were chaired by former KU VC Dr Abdul Wahab, while MRs Musrat Osama Siddiqui, Col Nisar Ahmed Khan, and Lt Col Rashid H Khan also spoke on the occasion.—PPI
