KARACHI, Oct 18: The officials of Karachi Mass Transit and the city government held preliminary discussion on pre-tender details here on Saturday.
The discussion emerged at a consultative meeting of pre- qualified companies with senior officials of the city government, held under the chairmanship of DCO Mir Hussain Ali, for the execution of mass transit rail project.
In the meeting, the companies were provided pre-tendering details for the purpose of their guidance regarding the project while their suggestions were also considered in depth.
During the meeting, the companies requested for an extension of six weeks from Oct 30 for submission of tenders. The DCO assured them that their request would be considered, but, the final decision would be made by City Nazim Naimatullah Khan on his return from China.
DG Mass Transit said that the mass transit project consisted of six corridors, out of which work on 15-km-long first corridor from Sohrab Goth to Tower was being taken up on BOT basis for which national and international companies had pre-qualified. He said that in all 22 companies had purchased the documents and eight of them had participated.
It may be mentioned here that the city government is considering three different mass transit schemes, including Light Rail project, Mono-rail project and Magnetic Rail project. —APP
