HARIPUR, Oct 17: A no-confidence motion against the district Nazim Haripur Dr Raja Amer Zaman was rejected on Thursday with a majority vote.
Two members of the district council Haripur, Syed Masood Shah, Nazim UC Pind Hasham Khan and Syed Sajid Hussain Shah, Nazim UC Tofkian, on Wednesday moved a no-trust resolution in the house.
They accused the district Nazim of having lost the confidence of the house due to his wrong policies.
Chaired by the district Nazim Riaz Khan Jadoon and supervised by the ACO Haripur Syed Hassnain Kazmi the voting, which was scheduled to be held at 10am, commenced at 4pm.
According to results announced by the ACO, 56 votes were polled against the no-trust resolution while only two out of 58 votes were cast in favor of the motion, whereas three members were absent and one member, Salim Khan, Nazim UC Kholian, walked out of the house.
Speaking on the occasion the district Nazim said that he did his best to bring the under-developed and deprived rural areas of the district at par with the relatively developed ones and assured the house that he would try to achieve the goal of development of other UCs of the district with the consent of all members.
Aslam Khan Bagra, Salim Khan and Qamar Zaman, who some time back had formed the opposition group in the house, supported the district Nazim.
It was observed that most members who usually gave a tough time to the leader of the house in the past cast their votes in favour of Dr Amer.
Meanwhile the movers of the motion, Syed Masood Shah and Syed Sajid Shah, while talking to newsmen said that they were betrayed by opposition members who pushed them to go ahead with the motion by assuring the support of 28 members in the house.
A few days ago the court of a senior civil judge Haripur granted stay against the move on the application filed by Saeed Abbasi, Nazim UC Shah Maqsood and Riaz Ahmad Khan, Nazim UC Rehana in which they had said that the district Nazim, in a bid to protect himself from the impending no-trust move, made members of his own group table the motion.
However, the same court, headed by Senior Civil Judge Asif Khan, vacated the stay rejecting the claim under Order 7 and rule 11 of the PPC.
