MIRPURKHAS, Oct 16: Sindh Assembly speaker Syed Muzaffar Hussain Shah has ordered stern action against irrigation engineers responsible for the installation of illegal pipes in the Thar Wah and directed their immediate removal.

Presiding over a meeting of irrigation officers at Haider Farm, Umerkot, on Wednesday evening, he said the irrigation department was directed six months ago to promptly remove illegal pipes from the Thar Wah but it was not complied with.

He ordered the director, Nara Canal Area Water Board, to ensure rotation in the Thar Wah for 12 days in a month so that growers of each area got their share of water on time. He also called for de-silting of the Thar Wah to increase its capacity.

The speaker asked the director to hold a meeting with tail- enders of the Chore Wah on Oct 21 to resolve their problems. He also directed the XEN Thar division to ensure proper water supply to growers of the Chore Wah.

Furthermore, he ordered registration of cases against those who were getting illegal water supply.

POWER TRANSFORMER: Hundreds of residents of Siyal Colony, Mirpurkhas, held a demonstration here on Thursday to protest against the non-supply of electricity to the colony for the last five days and alleged corruption of Hesco officials of Hirabad sub-division.

Raising barricades on Ring Road, they burnt tyres and shouted slogans. They demanded that the Hesco chief take immediate action against the officials allegedly involved in corruption.

Talking to journalists, they said the line superintendent had taken away the area transformer for repairs but despite the lapse of five days, it had not been installed even though the XEN, Mirpurkhas division, had directed him in this regard.

Accusing the line superintendent of getting illegal gratification, the protesters demanded action against them as well as restoration of power to the colony.
