Shaukat Aziz declares assets

LAHORE, Oct 15: Federal Finance Minister Shaukat Aziz has filed a declaration of his assets and liabilities with the Election Commission of Pakistan.

The minister submitted the declaration on the last day of the grace period allowed by the commission.

According to sources in the commission’s Lahore establishment, only five law-makers from the Punjab have failed to submit the declaration, which is a requirement under Section 42-A of the Representation of People’s Act 1976,

Among the five legislators who have not yet met the legal requirement, Ishaq Khan Khakwani from Behari is the only MNA. The other four are Punjab MPAs Haji Qaiser Amin Butt from Lahore, Malik Jawad Kamran Khar from Muzaffargarh, Dr Syed Waseem Akhtar from Bahawalpur and Lubna Malik who was elected on a reserved seat. Dr Waseem belongs to the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal while the remaining are members of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League.

It may be mentioned here that 19 legislators submitted their declarations on Oct 13 and three the next day. A large number of them came to submit the details of their assets and liabilities on the last day (today).

The MNAs who submitted their declarations in Lahore on Wednesday included Raja Nadir Pervez Khan from Faisalabad, Qazi Hamidullah Khan from Gujranwala, Chaudhry Mehdi Hassan Bhatti from Hafizabad, Umer Ahmad Ghumman, Ali Asjad Mallhi from Sialkot, Maj Habibullah Warraich (Retired), Mian Jamil Ahmad Sharaqpuri from Sheikhupura, Syed Asad Murtaza Gillani from Multan, Rana Tariq Javed from Sahiwal, Amir Yaar Malik from Bahawalpur and Makhdoom Syed Ahmad Alam Anwar from Rahimyar Khan.

The women MNAs from the province who filed their declarations were Riffat Ahmad and Farzeen Ahmad. Bushra Rehman and Shehzadi Umerzadi Tiwana had submitted the declarations earlier.

The Punjab MPAs who filed their declarations on the last day included Sardar Mohammad Ali Khan and Syed Abbas Mohyuddin from Attock, Ijaz Husain Farhat from Chakwal, Ashfaqur Rehman from Toba Tek Singh, Amanat Ali Virk and Haji Mudassar Qayyum Nahra from Gujranwala, Chaudhry Mohammad Arshad from Gujrat, Hamida Wahiduddin from Mandi Bahauddin, Khush Akhtar Subhani from Sialkot, Malik Ahmad Syed Khan from Kasur, Mohammad Hasnain from Multan, Dr Nazir Ahmad Mithu Dogar from Vehari, Javed Akhtar Lund from Dera Ghazi Khan and Mohammad Abdullah Vance from Bahawalnagar.

Begum Rehana Jamil, Ahad Malik and Chaudhry Mohammad Mansha Sandhu from Lahore also submitted their declarations along with women MPAs Zeenat Khan, Dr Anjum Amjad, Zahida Sarfaraz, Parveen Sikandar Gill, Nighat Salim Khan and Shamim Akhtar. —Correspondent
