KARACHI, Oct 15: The adviser to the Sindh chief minister on home affairs, Aftab Ahmad Shaikh, on Wednesday visited a family observing a token hunger strike outside the Karachi Press Club in protest against excesses of the Sukkur police.

Jalaluddin Lakho and his family members, belonging to Goth Saeed Khan Lakho, Khairpur Merus, told the adviser that the SHO of the Kundhra police station, Sukkur, Tahir Mughal, SI Ahmad Ali Solangi, SI Mohammad Samejo and other policemen raided their house without any reason and misbehaved with women and children and took away cash, jewellery, their truck (AE 0033) and other valuables.

They said Jalaluddin and his son were detained and tortured by the police at an undisclosed place and forced them to do obscene acts.

Mr Shaikh assured them that an inquiry would be held into the matter.

He said the police officers concerned would be called to his office on Oct 25 and legal action would be taken against those found guilty.

On his assurance, the family members promised to call off their protest.

Mr Shaikh also met a jobless youth, Ahmad Nawaz, at the press club who was on hunger strike.

The youth called off his strike after the adviser promised him that he would be provided a job as soon as possible.—PPI
