DADU, Oct 15: Sindh Chief Minister Ali Mohammad Mahar has said the killers of newsman Amir Bakhsh Brohi will be arrested soon.

Talking to journalists at the 751st annual Urs of Qalandar Lal Shahbaz at his shrine in Sehwan on Wednesday, Mr Mahar gave an assurance that justice would be provided to the family of the slain newsman.

He said the Sindh government had directed multinational oil and gas exploring companies to provide jobs to local people of Ghotki, Dadu and other areas.

Answering a question, the chief minister said wheat lying at different godowns would be shifted to safer places and bags of wheat would be distributed among deserving people.

Earlier, the chief minister inaugurated the Urs and offered Fateha and laid floral wreaths at the shrine.

Before inaugurating the Urs, Mr Mahar held a meeting at the irrigation department rest house.

Mr Magsi informed the chief minister that tenders for construction of the Dhamal court at the shrine of Qalandar Lal Shahbaz were invited last month and the work would be initiated soon. He said Rs75 million had been released for phase-II of the project, adding that work on different parts of the shrine was going on.

On this occasion, Mr Mahar announced Rs50 million for phase-II and Rs50 million for construction of Lal Bagh.

CLASH: A person was killed and five others injured in a clash between two groups of Chandio tribesmen over the distribution of irrigation water in Daloo Khokhar village, Mehar Taluka, on Monday night.

Axes and guns were used in the clash, as a result of which, Sudheer Chandio, 20, was axed to death while Roshan, Ali Gohar, Gulzar, Naban and Aslam sustained bullet injuries.

The Thariri Mohabbat police have lodged an FIR against eight persons and arrested four: Ramzan, Safar, Imdad and Aijaz.

DEMO: A large number of residents of Workshop Mohalla held a demonstration in front of the Dadu police station late Sunday night to protest against the functioning of narcotic dens in various parts of the town.

They were led by Councillor Mohammad Ali Solangi.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Solangi said that some notorious persons were running narcotic dens in Workshop Mohalla and when he asked them to close down such dens, the drug peddlers and their supporters barged into his house and started aerial firing.
