Section 144 imposed in Karachi for 90 days

KARACHI: Sindh's Provincial Home Department issued a notification on Monday imposing Section 144 in Karachi division which bans display of weapons in the city.

The current imposition of Section 144 is for a 90-day duration and comes into immediate effect.

The ban imposed today include activities such as open display of arms, private vehicles having resemblance with vehicles of police and other law enforcement agencies, private vehicles with tinted glasses, private vehicles with mounted police lights or sirens and fancy number plates.

Police and government paramilitary forces have been mounting an operation against militants and criminals in Karachi since September 2013. The city of around 20 million people and Pakistan's economic capital has been racked in recent years by criminal, ethnic, political and religious violence.
