PESHAWAR, Dec 24: The Law Group Pakistan will organize “Afghan Women Peace and Solidarity Jirga” at Nishter Hall here on Tuesday.

More than 500 Afghan refugee women living in Pakistan are likely to attend the Jirga to discuss peace and solidarity in Afghanistan.

For the first time a large number of Afghan women will meet outside their country to discuss Afghanistan’s political situation. Refugee women’s delegations from Quetta, Islamabad, Lahore, Attock and different parts of the NWFP and tribal areas are expected to attend the Jirga.

The Afghan women Jirga will discuss the concerns of displaced persons in Pakistan about the refugee repatriation policy, role of women in ensuring human rights and women’s rights in Afghanistan and also discuss the reports of Bonn, Belgium, and Tokyo conferences, says a press release.

The press release said that the objective of the Jirga was to prepare a joint declaration and recommendations for the new interim government in Afghanistan.

The Jirga would constitute a committee to present the declaration and recommendations of the Peshawar Jirga to the chairman of the interim council, Hamid Karzai in Kabul.
