LAHORE: PPP Punjab (central) President Manzoor Wattoo has asked the Punjab government not to raze the Mominpura graveyard for the Metro Train project.

“The government will not be allowed to demolish Mominpura graveyard and shops to pave the way for Metro Train project,” he said at a rally at Lakshmi Chowk here on Saturday.

He said he had come there to express solidarity with the traders and support their demand that the Metro Train station be shifted from Lakshmi Chowk.

He said the Mominpura graveyard was hundreds years old and there were graves of national heroes like Air Chief Marshal Mushaf Ali Mir Shaheed, Nasir Kazmi, Ustad Amanat Ali, Asad Amanat Ali and Ejaz Batalwi.

He demanded that action be taken against the senior officials of the Archeology Department and the Environment Protection Agency for their criminal negligence in duties.

Wattoo said instead of spending Rs165 billion on Metro train, the Punjab government should focus on education, health and clean drinking water as hepatitis had assumed epidemic proportion in the province.
