GILGIT, Oct 13: The candidate of the People’s Party Parliamentarians, Mohammad Jafar, on Monday won election to the post of deputy speaker of the Northern Areas Legislative Council by defeating Ghulam Ali Haidiri of the Pakistan Muslim League-N by one vote.

Nomination papers were filed by three candidates but Haji Amir Jan withdrew his candidature. Two of the 29 votes cast by NALC members were rejected.
