Strike observed

BADIN, Oct 13: A strike was observed in Talhar on Monday on the call of the Bawani Sugar Mills workers in protest against the non-payment of Rs110 million dues to them.

Shops, wholesale and retail markets and trade centres remained closed throughout the day.

Led by Abdul Razzaq Chohan, president of the CBA Mehnatkash Union, Bawani Sugar Mills, hundreds of workers, residents and traders gathered outside the local press club.

Small processions led by the local leaders of different political parties, at least 200 women and Taluka Nazim Abdul Qadir Jamali also joined the protest.

The protesters, raising slogans against the mill management, marched main thoroughfares of the town and converged at the main bus stand.

There they staged a sit-in and suspended vehicular traffic to Badin, Tando Bago, Saeedpur and other towns.

On the occasion, Mr Chohan, Nadir Ali Khwaja (PPP), Ganhwar Lashari (Talhar union council Nazim), Lakhi Jamali (Mutahidda Qaumi Movement), Shahnawaz Siyal (Sindh Taraqqi Pasand Party) and others delivered speeches.

They said that millions of rupees were outstanding against the sugar mill management which included two bonuses, 11 salaries, overtime, increments, differences and other incentives.
