TOBA TEK SINGH: Former union council nazim and current chairman of Punjab Irrigation and Drainage Authority, Pirmahal, Rao Athar Iqbal allegedly committed suicide on Monday while his father ex-MPA Rao Muhammad Iqbal Khan, who tried to stop him, was also ‘accidently’ killed by his fire.
Police said both the deceased, Rao Athar and his father Rao Iqbal, were present at their outhouse at Chak 670/11 GB when they quarreled with each other over some domestic issue. Athar attempted to commit suicide with a pistol while Iqbal tried to snatch the weapon from him. During the scuffle, the pistol went off and hit Iqbal who fell down on the ground. Athar shot himself in the head and died instantly while his father was rushed to the Pirmahal THQ hospital where doctors referred him to the Faisalabad Allied Hospital. He succumbed to his wound in the ambulance on the way to Faisalabad.
FOUR INJURED: Four persons were injured over a trifle on Jhang Road, Gojra.
One Saifullah, a resident of Altaf Colony, went to the cement shop of Makhdoom Anwar and they had an exchange of harsh words over the purchase of cement.
Saifullah went away but returned with three accomplices on two motorcycles and opened indiscriminate fire on Anwar. As a result, Anwar, his brother Naeem Anwar, Amanullah and Ghulam Ali were injured seriously.
The injured were rushed to the Gojra THQ hospital from where Naeem was referred to the Allied Hospital Faisalabad in critical condition.
