KARACHI: Indian 15-Red champion Amee Kamani has proposed that Pakistan should also raise women cueists in order to have bilateral competitions between the two nations.

“Like other sports including cricket and table tennis, Pakistan should take initiative by discovering and grooming women snooker players,” she told Dawn on the sidelines of the World 6-Reds and team snooker championships at Movenpick hotel on Saturday.

A native of Indore, Amee was delighted for making it to the semi-finals from group A with a clean slate winning all the four games so far. She is slated to play is last match against her compatriot Arantxa Sanchis.

Asked whom she rate to win the women’s 6-Reds title, she said: The tournament is wide open right now and anybody who will perform well on the table will win.

“I was very excited before coming to Pakistan and enjoying the comfortable stay,” Amee, who is a bronze medallist in the women’s team event at Sharm-el-Sheikh last year with Vidya Pillai said.

It is pertinent to mention that due to lack of entries, women’s team event is not being held this time.

Applauding the befitting arrangements she said the hospitality was ‘superb’ and there’s no hassle because the competition and stay are under one roof.

The Indian cueists said sportspersons are like a family and interact with each other in various events to foster bilateral relations. “They talk sports and not politics,” she concluded.
