They reviewed the law and order situation in the country and vowed to combat terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.
The two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to rid the country of terrorism, extremism and sectarianism and deliberated upon the ways and means to promote the spirit of tolerance and peaceful coexistence.
During the meeting, the prime minister discussed with the president matters pertaining to his interaction with the US leadership.
He also apprised the president of his meetings with United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan, representatives of the business community and expatriate Pakistanis.
An official announcement says the president congratulated the prime minister on his “successful visit” to the US and for highlighting the country’s standpoint on important international, regional and national issues during his interactions.
They also conferred about Gen Musharraf’s forthcoming visit to Malaysia, where he would be representing Pakistan in the 10th OIC Summit; and exchanged views on the proposals that Pakistan will put forth at the summit aimed at transforming the OIC into a more vibrant and dynamic organization.
The two leaders reviewed the political and regional situation, and the proposed constitutional package and also discussed the progress of talks between the government and the MMA.
