HYDERABAD, Oct 8: Several district council members on Wednesday tendered their resignations from the membership of different committees of the council enblock in protest against “the deliberate attempts of ignoring them from being inducted in important committees”.
The members held a meeting in Latifabad on Tuesday in which they decided to tender their resignations.
The majority of the members handed over their resignations to Mohammad Yousuf Qureshi.
The council officer confirmed that Mohammad Rafique Meo and Rana Mehmood Ali Khan handed over their resignations to him individually.
According to Yousuf Qureshi, he had handed over the resignations to the council officer following a unanimous decision by the members.
Those who tendered their resignations included Sher Mohammad Pirzada (finance and planning), Mohammad Fayyaz Khan (sports), Abdul Qadeer Qazi (chairman accounts committee), Mohammad Ehsan (education), Naseeruddin Humayun (accounts committee), Ibrahim Chishti (land revenue), Mohammad Yousuf Qureshi (works and services), Abdul Qayyum Sheikh (justice), Dr Saifur Rehman (health), Mohammad Rafiq (works and services), Mohammad Ameen (law), Rana Mehmood Ali Khan (labour), Ameena Naz (women development) and Abdul Saleem Khanzada (civil defence).
The members claimed that Nazims of urban areas had not been given due representation as chairmen of different committees and hinted at unnecessary interference by the district Nazim and Naib Nazim.
Some of the members claimed that no member could be restricted for filing nomination for one particular committee as the member always had a choice to file his candidature for more than one committee.
Earlier, during the last session of the council when the elections were held for the committees these members had boycotted elections for the post of chairmen of these committees. All the members who have resigned belonged to Latifabad Taluka and the members from Taluka City have yet to take a final decision regarding tendering resignations.
