PESHAWAR, Oct 7: A writ petition has been filed, requesting the Peshawar High Court to direct the police to register FIRs against teachers and employees of a local boys’ school for allegedly abusing students.

The writ petition, filed on Tuesday by the Free Legal Aid Cell, complained that instead of being punished, teachers allegedly involved in the scandal had been transferred to other schools.

Raza Khan, an office-bearer of the legal aid cell, stated that teachers involved in the sexual abuse of students had tarnished the image of the noble teaching profession.

He stated that in view of the gravity of the offence, the transferring of employees of the City Government Higher Secondary School No 3, was not a punishment.

The petitioner requested the high court to direct the police officials concerned, includ-

ing SSP and SHO to register a case against culprits besides arresting them to save other students from becoming their victims.

He stated that while the inquiry committee had proven that students had been sexually abused but officials concerned had not realized the seriousness of the crime.

Officials of the education department including secretary education, director education, principal of the school concerned and local police have been named as respondents in the petition.
