LAHORE, Oct 5: South Africa again failed to show their true potential, as tidy fielding and some good knocks steered Pakistan to an easy 42-run win against them and gave the home side a 2-0 lead in the five-match series at the Gaddafi Stadium on Sunday.

Propelled by fine batting of Yousuf Youhana (65), Inzamam-ul-Haq (33 not out), Younis Khan (41) and Shoaib Malik (45), Pakistan piled up 267 for seven in 50 overs. The Proteas, who put up a good fight in the opener while chasing a target of 278 and scoring 269, failed to give any credible performance and could collect 225 for nine, before the allotted overs were completed.

A second wicket partnership of 89-run between Jacques Kallis (42, six fours, 60 balls) and opener Boeta Dippenaar (58, six fours, 60 balls) was the only real resistance made by the visitors before Pakistan completed a thumping win.

Off-spinner Mohammad Hafeez, who failed with the bat, eventually broke the partnership. He clean bowled Kallis and later also accounted for Dippenaar in the same fashion. Therafter, no other batsmen could hold his ground.

Pakistan displayed some good fielding when it got three South African batsmen run out. They were Mckenzie, Boucher and Shaun Pollock.

Pacer Mohammad Sami, who played a key role in running out Mckenzie and Boucher, also finished with 3-20 in eight overs, and was declared as Man-of-the-Match.

Hafeez also got three for 37 runs in 10 overs.

Shoaib Akhtar failed to get any wicket, despite, the fact that the Proteas were playing under pressure.

Earlier, Pakistan made one change bringing in paceman Umar Gul in place of leg-spinner Mushtaq Ahmed who missed out due to stomach disorder while South Africa retained the same side which played the first game.

South Africa skipper, Graeame Smith, won the toss and surprisingly opted to field despite, having experienced how difficult it is to bat in the second half in the first game.

It was looking hard for Pakistan to score over 250 total when Rashid Latif was given run out at 201 in 43.2 overs.

However, rapid knocks by Yousuf (65, seven fours one six, 72 balls), Younis (41, three fours, 52 balls), Shoaib (45, two fours one six, 52 balls) and in the end by injured skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq (33 not out, four fours, 28 balls) helped Pakistan to again set a daunting target for the visitors.

In last two overs, Inzamam, who had to leave the pitch due to hamstring at individual score of 9, produced 27 runs. He with Shoaib Akhtar stole 11 runs from Makhaya Ntini in the 49th over and then 16 from pacer Andrew Hall’s 50th over of the innings.

Earlier, Andrew nudged Yousuf with his elbow and was also involved in sledging. However, Pakistan decided not to lodge a complaint to match referee Clive Lloyd, a PCB spokesman later told media.

Yousuf, who cracked his 32nd ODI fifty and consecutive second against South Africa, with Younis plundered 101 runs for the third wicket partnership in 82 minutes to lay a strong foundation. Younis, got a second life when wicketkeeper Mark Boucher missed a stumping chance when he was at 25.

Opener Mohammad Hafeez again disappointed the fans with his lackluster display when he fell to pacer Shaun Pollock for seven.

Ntini finished as key successful bowler with four for 46 in 10 overs.
