KARACHI, Oct 5: Pakistan recalled batsman Naved Latif and leg-spinner Danish Kaneria in their squad for the third One-day International at Faisalabad on Tuesday.
Naved came in for left-handed opener Salman Butt, who has yet to play in ODI despite being with squad since last month’s Bangladesh series. The middle-order batsman has been added as a cover-up for skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq, who has a strained hamstring.
Kaneria, meanwhile, replaced the injured Mushtaq Ahmed, who was ruled out of the rest of the one-day series with a eft rectus abdominal muscle strain.
Reuters adds from Johannesburg: South Africa’s selectors have sent 24-year-old Free State batsman/wicket-keeper Morne van Wyk to Pakistan as injury cover for two specialist batsmen.
Van Wyk will be on standby for Herschelle Gibbs who missed the opening game with strained stomach muscles.
Van Wyk was scheduled to fly on Sunday and will be available for the final three matches.
Van Wyk made his International debut against England in the final of the triangular series at Lord’s in July and has been in fine form for South Africa ‘A’ against Sri Lanka ‘A’ with scores of 52, 56 and 118 in three one-day matches in South Africa last week.
