GUJRANWALA, Oct 5: The Wazirabad Circle police claimed to have arrested 79 proclaimed offenders and busted around two dozen gangs of robbers during the last one week.
This was stated by ASP Waqar Ahmad Chohan at a monthly crime meeting held here in his office on Sunday.
He said that most of the POs had taken shelter at their hideouts in Chenab bela. He said that police parties of Soder and Saddar, Wazirabad, jointly raided there and arrested the POs after a brief encounter.
He said that Ahmednagar, Alipur Chattha, Ghakkhar and Wazirabad police also arrested about two dozen gangs of robbers who had made the life of the people miserable.
Police also recovered two Kalashnikovs, 11 rifles, 13 guns, 44 pistols, 55 revolvers, a carbine, two Mousers, two pump action guns, looted goods, including jewellery, TV sets, VCRs, stolen motorcycles and sizable contraband from their possession, he added.
CHANGED: The Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited has changed the first two digits of about 8,000 telephone numbers of the Model Town exchange here on Sunday.
Gujranwala Telecom Region (GTR) general manager Muhammad Anwer said that digits started from 26 and 29 had been changed with 85.
He said that telephone numbers of all government functionaries, including autonomous bodies, had been changed with digits 9200.
CHALLAN TICKETS: The traffic police claimed to have issued 2,500 challan tickets to vehicle owners for violating traffic rules during the last one week.
Traffic SP Intisar Hussain Jaffari said here on Sunday that the traffic police also impounded 150 vehicles, including wagons, pick-ups and rickshaws.
