KARACHI, Oct 5: Provincial chief of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal, Asadullah Bhutto, has demanded of the government to take concrete measures in order to improve law and order in the province and ensure safety and security of its citizens.

Speaking at a meeting here on Sunday, Maulana Bhutto said that the recent incident of terrorism in which many people lost their lives and many more sustained injuries exposed the government’s tall claims about law and order situation.

Criticizing the statement of Sindh police chief who described the incident as ‘sectarian killings’, the MMA leader alleged that the police were trying to protect terrorists involved.

He expressed the view that the disbursement of compensation to the bereaved families of the victims was not a remedy and demanded that culprits must be arrested immediately.

He deplored the army operation in South Waziristan saying that by terming peace-loving people living in Pakistan ‘terrorists’, Gen Musharraf wanted just to please the super power.

Maulana Bhutto also slammed the government for its alleged protection and support to a particular party which, he alleged, had been victimizing the people of province in general and of Karachi in particular.

He demanded of the government to cancel all anti-Sindh projects, create adequate employment opportunities and ensure safety and security of citizens.

PROTEST: The city chief of Jamaat-i-Islami, Mairajul Huda Siddiqui, has criticized the military action in South Waziristan and reminded the military leadership that people had extended their support to the army and provided it with modern arms and equipment only to ensure protection of geographical and ideological borders. However, he regretted, the armed forces had resorted to use its might against Muslim brethren in league with foreign spy agencies.

Citing growing US interference in the affairs of Pakistan, Mr Huda warned of a massive nationwide protest movement against the military operation in South Waziristan.
