Convict sent to the gallows

RAWALPINDI:  A convict in a non-terrorism case was sent to the gallows in Adiala jail on Tuesday.

The death warrants for Abdul Rehman were issued after all his mercy appeals were rejected. Sabir Masih carried out hanging in the jail while the jail doctor confirmed the death of the convict.

The execution of another death row prisoner was, however, cancelled as his family reached a patch-up with the rival party.

Meanwhile, the hanging of three convicts in non-terrorism cases of Chua Saiden Shah, Chakwal was temporarily suspended after the heirs of the convicts appealed to the authorities concerned that they were in talks with the victim’s families for a patch-up.

The hanging of Shah Zaman, another convict in non-terrorism murder case was cancelled after patch up with the heirs of the victim.

Shah Zaman, a resident of Chakri Road was convicted in a murder case on August 12, 2003.

The execution of three other convicts in a murder case of Chua Saidan Shah Chakwal was temporarily suspended after the court concerned issued ‘stay orders’ on Tuesday.

The three convicts, Javaid Sultan, Mohammad Rafiq and Ikram Hussain were arrested by the Chakwal police in the murder case took place on May 19, 1990.
