ISLAMABAD: Punjab MPA Sobia Anwar Satti, from the PML-N, alleged on Tuesday that her family are being victimised for political reasons and the Punjab police are being used for the purpose.

Addressing a news conference at the National Press Club, the MPA demanded that Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif conducted a judicial inquiry into the matter.

Sobia Satti alleged that the police arrested her uncle Bilal Yameen, son of late provincial minister Colonel Yameen Satti, on March 24 and illegally detained and tortured him.

“Before this, a number of other cases were registered against my uncle,” she said.

Ms Satti’s uncle, Bilal Yameen, told Dawn that on August 14, 2014, four members of a family were killed in Kahuta and the police falsely involved him in the case.

Police say her uncle had a criminal record since 1996

“Now, a robbery case has been registered against me to defame our family,” he said.

SP Rawalpindi Saddar Ghais Gul told Dawn that Bilal Yameen has had a criminal record since 1996 when robbery cases were first registered against him.

“Bilal Yameen’s father was a minister and respectable man but his son was involved in criminal activities. In 2003, he joined politics and began giving refuge to criminals, he is now using his niece, MPA Sobia Satti, to defend him,” he said.

“In a recent case, an ATM card was snatched during a robbery in the Civil Lines area. Later, CCTV footage from a bank showed Bilal Yameen accompanying a person using the stolen ATM card. His car can also been seen in the footage,” he said.

“We have to follow the law and that is why case has been registered. Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab has also conducted an inquiry into the issue and approved the action by the police,” SP Gul said.
