Marriage Ord: Violators to be penalized

GUJRANWALA, Oct 2: The City Tehsil Council will implement the orders of the Punjab chief minister of serving one dish in marriages by taking strict action against the violators.

Speaking at a meeting held here on Thursday, City Nazim Babu Javed Ahmad said the Nawaz Sharif government had banned the serving of meals in marriages through an ordinance.

However, he said the PML-Q government had allowed the people to serve their guests with one dish which was appreciated far and wide.

He sought the details of marriage ceremonies from city’s 64 union councils and asked nika registrars of each union council to provide the list of marriage ceremonies.

Later, city tehsil council teams, headed by the tehsil municipal officer, raided various marriage halls and open venues to check the one-dish restriction.

The City Nazim directed the raiding teams to submit their report regularly for onward transmission to the Punjab government.

REGISTRATION: At least 6,222 more destitutes will be registered in the district under the food support programme who will be given Rs1,000 after every six months from the Punjab Baitul Maal.

This was stated by Punjab Baitul Maal director Col Syed Nadim Ahmad Qadari here on Thursday.

He said applications received from the destitute for their registration had been forwarded to the DDO (revenue) concerned for scrutiny.

At least 19,000 destitutes had been paid the fifth instalment while some 10,000 the sixth instalment.

ARRESTED: The City Division police claimed to have arrested three drug pushers and seized 16kg hashish from them here on Thursday.

DPO Saud Aziz directed the police to arrest the drug pushers after he received information about the smuggling of hashish from the tribal area to the Punjab. A team, headed by inspector Rashid Sundho, raided the house of drug pushers and recovered the contraband. The raiding team also arrested drug pushers Yamin, Malik and Rehmat Ali.

Police have registered a case and are investigating.

RECOVERED: A local court bailiff raided the Ferozewala police station and retrieved six people, including three brothers, and produced them before court on Thursday.

Judge Riazul Hassan Alvi summoned the SHO and an investigating officer in court on Friday (today).

Peoples Colony union council councillor Abdul Rashid pleaded court that Anwer Masih, Nadim Masih, Shamas Masih, Sohail Masih, Baber Masih and Sonda Masih of Francisabad locality were working at his outhouse.

In the meanwhile, the SHO along with a police party conducted raid there and took them into custody on suspicion of their involvement in a dacoity. He expressed his apprehension that the police would wrongly implicate them in the dacoity case.

When contacted, the Ferozewala police said that they were taken into custody when the complainant identified them.
