HYDERABAD, Oct 2: The executive district officer (EDO), Health, Hyderabad, asked on Thursday that a report be sent to him regarding the closure of a dispensary, maternity home and non-availability of female gynaecologists and doctors in the Government Paretabad Hospital as a result of which the population of Phulleli and Paretabad were being badly affected.
The report was asked for after Hussain Bux Hussaini tabled a resolution at the District Council session on Thursday, which was converted into a questionnaire by the convener, Nawab Rashid Ali Khan.
Mr Hussaini pointed out that ultra-sound tests of female patients were being conducted by a male doctor whereas a lady gynaecologist had been transferred, resulting in closure of maternity home.
He said that three technicians had also been transferred whereas the Government Paretabad hospital lacked anti-biotic medicines.
Criticizing the EDO, Health, he said that he wanted to convert the hospital into a dispensary whereas the Mughal Dispensary, established by the Sindh government, had not started working.
The chair observed that another question of Mr Hussaini regarding imprisonment of Pakistanis in Indian jails would be referred to the Foreign Ministry.
Mr Hussaini pointed out that various Pakistanis were being kept in Indian prisons. He referred to the case of Mumtaz Ali Khan, son of Ayaz Ali Khan, who was arrested at the Wagah check post by Indian forces on charges of spying.
He said that he was severely tortured and had to be admitted in a hospital in Amritsar, and added that according to an FIR there were no allegations against him and nothing was recovered from him.
He said that according to Indian law, illegal entry was punishable with three years of imprisonment, while Mumtaz Ali Khan had exceeded this period.
As an example he quoted another case, that of an insane man, Rafi, who was a resident of Phulelli and had entered India as he accompanied a delegation of Hindus who had attended the fair of Rama Pir in Tando Allahyar.
The convener said that it could not be treated as a resolution; therefore, the question would be sent to the Foreign Ministry with a letter from the chair.
The session passed a resolution, tabled by Firdaus Anjum Abro, calling for arranging a study tour of women councillors.
