MITHI, Oct 1: Forty-two employees of the district council, Tharparkar, who are observing a hunger strike in front of the Mithi Press Club against termination of their services, have urged the chief secretary and the secretary of local government to reinstate them to save their families from starvation.

In a press statement, Ali Mohammad Nohri, Nazir Ahmed, Pamoonmal, Mohammad Haroon and others have alleged that though the employees had been performing their duties satisfactorily for about 10 years, their services were terminated by the former deputy commissioner in 2000 purely on political basis.

They filed an appeal before the secretary, local government, against the termination of their services besides visiting his office a number of times to seek redress for their grievance, but in vain.

Keeping in view the plight of these employees, the district council passed a resolution and also recommended restoration of their services, but the quarters concerned have not bothered to reinstate them.

The affected employees, whose families are reportedly facing starvation, have urged the government to look into the matter and reinstate them in the shortest possible time.

REGULARIZATION: Five candidates from Tharparkar who passed the Public Service Commission examination for the posts of HST/JST and were to be appointed on permanent basis but were posted on contract, have urged the authorities concerned for regularization of their services.

Talking to this correspondent here on Wednesday, Mohammad Arab, Kesulal, Asandar, Mehmood Ali and Rijhumal said when they passed the examination in 2001, the section officer, education, issued a notification for their appointment on permanent basis but they were adjusted on contract by the EDO (Education).
