HYDERABAD, Oct 1: Central president Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Central Labour Union Abdul Latif Nizamani has asked the government and Wapda to repeal the Industrial Relations Ordinance 2002 and Removal from Service (Special Powers) Ordinance 2000.

He was speaking at a protest meeting of workers at the Gari Khata’s labour hall here on Wednesday.

The meeting was held in connection with the “protest day” of workers.

He said the union believed in peaceful demonstration. He, however, said that Wapda and the government were provoking the employees as none of their demands were being accepted.

He urged the government to take notice of the unrest among workers before it was too late.

He said Wapda employees were working hard for the development of the country but they were being pushed against the wall.

He called upon members of parliament to raise their voice in support of the working class.

Speaking on the occasion, the provincial secretary-general of the union, Muhammad Iqbal Kaim Khani said Hesco employees were being victimized in spite of the fact that chairman Wapda had himself admitted to the improvement in the recovery of dues.

The others who spoke on the occasion included Mir Khan Baloch, Malik Sultan, Qazi Saleem Anwar and Muhammad Azam Khan.

The meeting also demanded that interim allowance of Rs400 per month for grade 1 to grade 16 employees should be restored, Presidential Ordinance 2000 and IRO 2002 should be withdrawn, retrenched employees should be reinstated and the transfer orders of poor employees to far flung areas should be cancelled.
