KARACHI, Sept 30: An interesting card of six races has been drawn for the mid-week Summer Gymkhana races which will be held on Wednesday at the local turf. The first race will begin at 1 p.m.
The day’s card has big fields with form horses in almost every race, therefore, the racing should be enjoyable unless the form goes astray.
In the first race Silent Fire, Bang Man, and Noor-Un-Nisa stand fair chance of heading the field.
The former has been knocking at the doors for quite some time, therefore I would like him to have the better of Bang Man who had finished just half a length behind my fancy.
Clever Cat, Dauntless, Royal Beauty and Silver City are the pick in the second race. Dauntless is a class act and the connections have been playing hide and seek with the thoroughbred for some time. Only on last Sunday all the runners were given warning.
Now the Dauntless connections will find it hard to escape the attention of the stewards and will have to provide the required support and the horse would just canter away.
In the third race, Your Opinion whose entry was banned by the stewards for two months on August 24 is a surprise entry and one really does not know how the colt is running.
If the colt is running then he should win. I do not see Rehmat Hi Rehmat, High Star or Trust Again posing real challenge to Your Opinion.
Grey Boy, Ever Shine, Sonia, and Knight Gambler are the form horses in the fourth race. Sonia in her last three starts was placed second which shows her consistency and gets my support to make amends today.
Ever Shine with a flying start can upset my calculations as she is a fast customer and will definitely adopt run away tactics.
In the fifth race, Sherganzer on his last run behind On Song looks day’s best as he in fact had genuine run on Sunday.
That run must have helped him in gaining full fitness and I cannot see any potential danger for him unless some unforeseen factors change the fate. Miss Oozi, Sapno Ki Rani and Savero should fight for less remunerative berths.
In the concluding event of the day, Roberto Carlos Fan, Snake Eyed, Dur-e-Yemen, Ranjha, On Song and Departure On Time are the form horses.
Roberto Carlos Fan was deprived of genuine win on last Sunday when the horse won the race fair and square but the stewards cancelled the race on the plea that the horse won after a false start.
The stewards had no legs to stand as the related formalities were not completed by the club staff. In fact the club staff was satisfied with the start and there was no ground to signal the foul start.
Anyway there seems nothing stopping him today unless some unforeseen factors once again prove more smart.
Departure On Time who finished third behind Roberto Carlos Fan and Micky Mikado will be a safe place bet and one does not foresee any reversal of form in just three days.
