LAHORE: The national training camps of different disciplines for the forthcoming Punjab International Sports Festival (PISF) started at different venues here on Friday.
The camps will remain in progress till May 18. The PISF, being staged under the auspices of Sports Board Punjab (SBP), is scheduled to begin in different cities across Punjab from May 20.
All members of national sports teams have reported to camp commandants at their prescribed venues.
SBP has engaged top-class trainers and coaches for imparting training to teams, being supervised by the national federations.
The camp for national men and women karatekas and boxers has started at the Gymnasium, Hall, Nishtar Park Sports Complex. The camp for women’s kabaddi team commenced at the Punjab Stadium while the National Hockey Stadium is the venue for women’s hockey camp.
The camp for men and women weightlifters has been set up at the Punjab University Old Campus.
SBP has invited athletes from around 40 countries to compete in different disciplines at PISF.
This time the SBP has rightly decided to keep itself away from The Guinness Book of World Records authorities in order to avoid unpopular records from getting registered.
The SBP in cooperation with the national sports federations has invited countries for which the provincial government is providing free air ticket, boarding and lodging facilities.
